Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 1,350 lbs of Kitten Mix due to Salmonella contamination.
The product was distributed between July 18, 2024 and July 26, 2024 to retail stores in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.
The recall was initiated after a customer complaint of animal illness and subsequent positive testing for Salmonella by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources.
Risk:
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
