Company announcement

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is recalling powdered beverage mixes due to potential contamination with Salmonella.

This recall is a result of a California Dairies, Inc. milk powder recall, which was used as an ingredient in the beverage mixes.

The affected beverage mixes are packaged in large formats intended for food service and institutional customers, but some may have been available for purchase by consumers through e-commerce platforms.

No illnesses have been reported as of April 28, 2026.

Risk:

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
