Company announcement

Everything Sprouts, LLC is recalling certain lots of Alfalfa Sprouts due to potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) or Salmonella bacteria.

The recalled products were distributed from May 27, 2026, to August 21, 2026, to wholesale distributors and grocery stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

As of August 22, 2026, 55 reports of illnesses have been received related to alfalfa sprouts. No deaths have been reported in connection with this recall.

Risk:

Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are organisms that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. STECs cause an acute diarrheal illness (often bloody diarrhea) within a few days of ingestion of the bacteria. A subset of infected individuals may develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a severe illness characterized by hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal failure, which can lead to death. The most common clinical illness caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella infection is gastroenteritis, resulting in nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. While usually self-limited, patients at risk for more severe illness include neonates, infants, adults greater than 65 years, and immunocompromised individuals. In rare circumstances, Salmonella infection can lead to more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and septic arthritis.
