Jewel Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa are recalling select tuna salad items due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The contamination originated from breadcrumbs used as an ingredient in the tuna salad, supplied by Reser’s Fine Foods.
No injuries or adverse reactions have been reported.
Risk:
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. In healthy individuals, it may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
