Company announcement

Tri-Union Seafoods is voluntarily recalling select lots of canned tuna due to a manufacturing defect in the easy-open lid, which may compromise the seal and lead to contamination with Clostridium botulinum.

The recalled products were distributed to retail stores in multiple states, including Texas, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.

Risk:

The manufacturing defect may compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time), causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled. Consumers feeling unwell should seek immediate medical attention.
