Shining Sea Fish Co. is recalling "Ma Cohen’s Kippered Herring" due to potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum.
The recalled herring was distributed to retail stores in Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Risk:
Consumption of uneviscerated fish longer than five inches can lead to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death. Botulism can cause general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble speaking or swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal distension, and constipation. Immediate medical attention should be sought if these symptoms occur.
