Revival Animal Health is voluntarily recalling Breeder’s Edge® and Shelter’s Choice® Feline Milk Replacers sold nationwide. The recall is due to inconsistent and low levels of essential vitamins and trace minerals, specifically potassium, copper, folic acid, choline, and/or pyridoxine (vitamin B6). While no illnesses have been confirmed, the company is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues. Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact the company for a full refund.
Risk:
Kittens, especially neonates, are highly vulnerable due to immature organ systems, rapid growth, and complete dependence on milk for nutrients. Deficiencies, which might be subclinical in adult cats, can be rapidly fatal or cause permanent developmental damage in kittens. Kittens fed milk replacer with insufficient copper, potassium, vitamin B6, folic acid, and choline face multi-system risks, including anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal diseases, and cardiac compromise. Clinical signs may appear within days to weeks, and deficiencies can be fatal or cause permanent organ damage if not recognized promptly.
